With the Edirne Biennial, which opened on 21 May and will run until 28 June 2026, the city will become one of the new meeting points of the international contemporary art world. Under the “Bridges” theme, the Edirne Biennial will bring together 213 artists from 23 countries, who will showcase their works to art lovers in the city’s historic and public spaces.

Organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, the Edirne Governor’s Office, Edirne Municipality and Trakya University; and led by the Association of Painting and Sculpture Museums and the Creative Children’s Association, the biennial will use art to explore contemporary issues such as memory, identity, migration, technology, ecology and cultural diversity.

The Biennial Route is Composed of Historic Sites
One of the most striking aspects of the biennial is that the events will take place in Edirne’s historic and public spaces: Selimiye Mosque and its complex, the Bayezid II Complex Health Museum, the Ekmekçizade Ahmet Pasha Caravanserai, Ali Pasha Bazaar, Karaağaç Railway Station Building, the Macedonian Tower and the Historic Customs House are among the biennial’s main venues...
The historic bridges spanning the Meric and Tunca rivers serve as symbolic centres of the ‘bridge’ concept, which forms the conceptual backbone of the biennial.
