Yavuz Sultan Selim Mosque
Commissioned by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in honor of his father, Yavuz Sultan, Selim Mosque was constructed by the chief imperial architect Alaeddin, also known as Acem Ali. Peçuylu İbrahim records that, following his father’s death, Suleiman had a mosque, a tomb, an almshouse, a school, a madrasa, a hospital, and a guesthouse built in his memory, funded by 400,000 gold coins from the imperial treasury.
